Eur¡ka Yebego Adragot Dirigit (in short: ‘Eur¡ka’) is an Africa-born non-profit organization founded by 11 women and men of different backgrounds and origins, thereafter joined by other young activists to defend the cause of girls, women and children. Our name is inspired from Archimedes’ famous quote meaning “I have found it!”, which is at the heart of our philosophy: helping our beneficiaries to find their own light, i.e. a way out of poverty, violence or other misfortunes. For that purpose, we pursue any sustainable action aiming at a visible progress of women’s and children’s rights and well-being, in the form of either development or humanitarian projects seeking particularly to: prevent or alleviate indigence; increase households’ food security; better manage natural resources; enhance health and nutrition statuses; improve access to quality education; empower mothers and caretakers; expand family planning practices; offer legal assistance and psychosocial counselling to victims and at risk populations, etc. We consider it a 'must' and the most viable / efficient approach to find the right balance between socio-economic and environmental imperatives.

Our Founding and Board members, who are both African and European, have a long-standing experience working for international NGOs, UN and Government agencies, as well as the European Commission or the African Union. They altogether designed, implemented, supervised, monitored, evaluated, assessed and audited – or provided technical assistance to – numerous projects throughout the World. They also acquired expertise in complementary fields and positions that are essential to developing a civil society organization, such as: general management (Country and Deputy Director, Consortium Manager, Programme Manager, Field Coordinator, etc.), programmatic functions in the field (Health & Nutrition Coordinator, Child Protection Officer, Food Security & Livelihoods Manager, Microfinance Expert, Public Health Officer, etc.) and support functions (Financial Manager, Human Resources, Administration and Finance Officer, Procurement Officer, External Auditor, etc.)

Eur¡ka’s Executive Director has gained extensive consulting and humanitarian experience on all continents, having worked for NGOs such as Action Contre la Faim (on nutrition & health, food security and WASH projects), ACTED and Positive Planet (microfinance), in addition to consulting assignments for the European Union, the United Nations and other donors (e.g. for technical assistance, audits, evaluations and assessments of NGOs, UN and public agencies). Our Programme Manager is an Ethiopian lawyer who notably worked for the Federal Court of Justice and the Child Legal Protection Centre – having managed cases of women victims of violence and other hardships – as well as in the Eritrean refugee camps of North Ethiopia (Tigray region) – she was notably in charge of best interest assessments of unaccompanied minors. Both are supported by the projects' teams and our Board , each in their field of expertise.
